Operation Graduation Essay: I Wanted a Better Future for My Son (Limestone, Ala.)
I came to Ombudsman because I got pregnant my junior year. I got through most of my junior year without missing any school from morning sickness, because I didn’t have it luckily. My grades were not the best to begin with but they were average. Toward the end of my junior year when my belly started to get bigger and bigger I missed a lot of school from fatigue, back aches, and just laziness.
I didn’t really have a bad pregnancy I was just always tired, due to that I started to get behind and my grades started to drop. So I went to talk to my counselor about getting home schooled for the rest of my pregnancy and return back to school my senior year; she said that would be fine. My counselor also suggested Ombudsman for my senior year, and without any hesitation I took that option instead of returning to my home school.
I am so happy that I got into Ombudsman because I wanted to make a better future for me and my son Zayden. Zayden changed my life for the better, he inspired me to do better and always work my hardest at everything I do. Having a child changes your whole life, and I wouldn’t regret having him this early at all. When I first found out I was pregnant I was kind of happy because right before I found out my mother had passed away, and it’s like God was giving me a gift to fill that empty space in my heart after she passed. I just wish she was here to see her first grandson. I love my son so very much and I would do anything for him.
My experience at Ombudsman has been the greatest; the teachers here are as sweet and as helpful as can be. The best thing about coming here is the big time encouragements and the one on one attention everyone gets from the teachers. Another great thing is that they understand when I can’t make it because I also have to help take care of my grandmother and I also have to stay home with my baby and take care of him when he’s sick. When I do come back I always work extra hard for the time that I did miss. Also when I am here I can get help with whatever I need and that is what gave me hope because in regular school that did not happen a lot because of so many students and so little time.
My future plans after I graduate are to attend college and take up nursing, mostly because I love to help other people and I will make some good money for me and my son because I want to be able to give my son whatever he wants so he won’t have to want for anything. With my diploma in my hand we will have a better life than if I didn’t get it. Our future will be great.
I want to give a big thanks to the Ombudsman staff because I believe if it wasn’t for this place I wouldn’t have made it out of high school and I appreciate everything they have done and helped me with. They showed me individuality and they encouraged me to strive to be better for me and my son and for that I will always admire them and show them gratitude for helping me and everybody else to succeed and make it in life. I promise I will come back to visit whenever I get the chance to do so. Thank you all so very much for everything!
