Operation Graduation 2013: Makayla Parker (Seneca, Mo.)
My experience at Ombudsman has been great! Let me start off by saying the teachers here have helped me a lot. They have pushed me to get my work done and graduate 8th grade, with my class.
How I got into the Ombudsman center was when I was in 7th grade, I got sick a lot and missed way too much school. I knew I was probably going to get held back. In my head I would always say “Everything will work out it will be okay.” And in the end it was okay.
A few days before school started the principal told me I didn’t meet the requirements to pass 7th grade. At first I was really disappointed in myself. Then he told me about the Ombudsman center, and that I could complete my 7th and 8th grade year. I was really happy there was a second chance for me.
The first day I was really nervous because I didn’t know anybody, and I knew I had to work really hard. But after a few weeks I made really good friends, and started getting used t working hard. Though, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy I knew I could do it. I think going to school with other people who were already in high school, it showed me that I could fit in next year in high school. And my confidence in myself became a lot better. My attendance has also improved. I don’t mind coming to school every day.
I had 4 classes each semester. I was completing 7th and 8th grade in one year. And with doing that it showed me what I was capable of! Ombudsman was my second chance to make everything okay in the end. I’m so glad I got the experience I did at Ombudsman. And I’m so grateful for the teachers who helped me through everything!
