Operation Graduation 2012: Cody Sarno (Glendale, Ariz.)
So, all of us seniors are going to graduate from Charter West very soon. I am very happy that I get to leave; no offense. But it’s been one tough and long ride. All of the teachers can agree that I was a pain, but most of them still like me, at least I think so. It looks like this will be my last 5 paragraph essay at this school anyways; it probably won’t be great.
Before I came to Ombudsman, I was always getting in fights. I was getting into a lot of stuff that I might not have been able to get out of, but luckily for me I pulled myself out in time. I still get into it with some others but not even close to how I used to. Without some of these teachers, I most likely would have given up and dropped out, but Ms. Sova and Mrs. Jagger just knew what to say to take me from ready to walk out to getting back to work.
There’s a lot about this school that is much better than I have ever seen at any other school. With the way I was going, I thought I was going to be like my brother and be into drugs and in jail by the time I was 15 years old, but I’m not thanks to Ombudsman Charter West. Now, I’m looking for another job, I’m planning for college, and wanting to start up my own shop.
Choice Theory helped with many aspects of my life; instead of doing, I think about it and try to figure out if the repercussions are worth it. Sometimes it is and I get my hands dirty, but never like I used to. Without being corny, I want that great life that I never thought I could have. I want to be able to raise my kids the way they should be raised, which is something I never had.
So, I work hard now; I won’t stop until I’m where I need to be. Graduation is it the first step to the rest of my life. I am not going to give myself a big congratulations because we finally did it like everyone else. It’s just a matter of time that this finally happened. I’m glad I could spend my last years at Ombudsman; it made all the difference.
