Operation Graduation Essay: Before coming to Ombudsman I lacked motivation (DeKalb, Ala.)

Date: June 30, 2014

I’ve learned a lot of things in my life that have helped me grow as a person. One thing I’ve learned while attending Ombudsman is that self motivation is very important. Even though I am still working on being able to motivate myself to do school work and put my education first, I do think that I’ve improved especially in my last few months attending Ombudsman.

Before coming to Ombudsman I lacked motivation to do school work, I was severely depressed and I had basically given up on everything. Starting off at Ombudsman I really worked hard, I went above and beyond taking notes, really put effort in my enrichments and was focused. As time passed, I slowly began sinking into my old ways. I wasn’t as focused as I was when I began my first semester, the quality and quantity of my work progressively got poorer and I didn’t really care that much.

By not doing all the things I needed to complete in class that day, I was left with catching myself up at home, on my own time, which I hated. Even then I wasn’t doing a lot of work at home trying to catch myself up. Towards the end of the semester I realized I had a lot of work to do! I became really overwhelmed, depressed and frustrated at myself because I had let myself get so far behind. Fortunately I was still able to complete the work I had in such a short period of time so I was able to move on to my next classes and get credit.

Even though I still have a lot of work I have to do in order to graduate, I’m taking it day by day and slowly getting it done and I’m seeing good results. I can do more things after school without my mom nagging at me, my teachers seem more at ease because I am getting more work done and I feel better about myself. I still find it hard to motivate myself sometimes but I have improved. I am confident that I will graduate on time, if not early. I’m excited to be done with high school and move on with my life.

In conclusion, I’ve learned that you should get your work done and put your education first. It will save you a lot of hassle in the end, you will be less stressed, depressed and you will feel better about yourself.
