Student Profile: Albert Avizius (Downers Grove, Ill.)

Date: October 18, 2012

Albert Avizius is a senior from Hinsdale Central.

OES: Welcome back Albert. How are things going this year?

AA: It’s going good. I have a lot of work to do.

OES: Compare the work  you do here with the work you did at the district.

AA: The work is the same. The difference is the way you do it. I can concentrate on one class at a time. That makes it easier for me to focus.

OES: How do you like working on the computer?

AA: It’s good for me because I can go over a lesson again if I need to. At school the teacher didn’t always have time to stop and help if you didn’t get something. I can work at my own pace and I don’t feel rushed.

OES: How are you doing this year?

AA: I’ve finished the first semester of math, which is great.

OES: What will be the most challenging for you?

AA: English. I have a lot of English to do.

OES: You’re a senior this year. What’s next for Albert?

AA: I’d like to go to culinary school. I’ve had culinary classes at my district and at the Technology Center of DuPage.

OES: What types of things do you learn?

AA: They teach basic skills but you can also earn different licenses.

OES: Licenses?

AA: You can earn your sanitation license as well as certificates in CPR, fire safety and career readiness.

OES: Albert, what would you tell someone who didn’t know anything about the program?

AA: I’d tell them it’s a good place to be. You can catch up on your credits, and it’s easier to focus with a three hour school day.
