Student Essay: Lauren Wooten (Athens, Ala.)
Why I Came (Back) to Ombudsman
I hope y’all missed me! I’m back again for my second, and final year at Ombudsman. I started school here last year because I was pregnant and needed a quicker, less time consuming way of finishing high school. You guys already know that whole story though, so in this essay I’m going to give you three reasons why I decided to come back to Ombudsman instead of finishing out my high school experience at West Limestone.
The first reason I decided to come back to Ombudsman is because there is no drama! Now that my life is different from other teenagers, I come to school to get an education, not for the social aspect. I go to school to learn as much as I can; I do not need the distractions of other kids around me. Ombudsman provides the perfect drama-free environment for me.
Another reason I came back is because of the hours I attend. Since I have a son now, I have to dedicate my time to taking care of him. It is much easier for me to attend four hours of school here, as opposed to seven hours at a regular high school.
Lastly, Ombudsman is a great school! It might sound crazy, but I love it here. Ombudsman has a great environment, and of course I love the teachers. Everyone gets along and we always have fun cutting up while getting our work done.
When my parents offered to let me go back to West this past summer, I had to think long and hard about what I was leaving behind here. However, at the end of the day, I couldn’t give up the opportunity to back here. Ombudsman means more to me than it does to most kids, I think. This isn’t just some place I came to finish up because I hated school. This is my high school, my home, and I’ve learned to love it here.
