Ombudsman Chicago Expands to Open South Side Location
CPS Options School New Location Now Enrolling Students
CHICAGO (August 8, 2014) – Ombudsman Chicago has announced the opening of a new Options School learning center at 6057 S. Western Avenue on Chicago’s South Side. The new location is currently accepting applications. Students can learn more or enroll now by visiting www.chicagodiploma.com or by calling (312) 806-9022.
Prospective students, families and the community are invited to attend a grand opening ceremony and open house at the school on August 28. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. will be hosted by WGCI-FM radio’s UB Rodriguez with remarks from Alderman JoAnn Thompson. Interested students and parents can tour the new location and meet Ombudsman staff and students during the open house from 4-7 p.m.
A CPS Options School (not a charter), Ombudsman Chicago, opened two centers in 2013 and offers out-of-school and off-track youth a second chance at achieving academic success while preparing them for continuing education and a career. The program features a flexible schedule offering morning or afternoon sessions in a safe, welcoming and technology-rich environment combining online coursework with personal support and face‐to‐face instruction from caring, highly qualified and certified teachers. Enrollment is free and students are eligible to attend Ombudsman Chicago if they are 21 or younger as of September 2, 2014, returning to grades 9-12, and residents of the city of Chicago.
With the support of local aldermen and neighborhood advocates, Ombudsman’s South Side location will mark the third learning center to open in the City of Chicago. Additional centers are located at 7500 N. Harlem Ave. on the Northwest Side, and at 2401 W. Congress Pkwy. on the city’s West Side.
“I am delighted to be a part of the opening of the Ombudsman Chicago South learning center,” said JoAnn Thompson, Alderman 16th Ward. “I’ve always believed that a good education is essential to success in life. Now youth in our community have another great educational option that will help them graduate from high school and prepare them for the future.”
South Side community partners have also welcomed the addition of the new learning center, feeling confident in the new opportunities that it will provide for neighborhood youth.
“Ombudsman provides young people a second chance to achieve their academic goals,” said Southwest Organizing Project Outreach Team Coordinator Omar Kamran. “Students who receive an education with Ombudsman do so in an engaging and supportive learning community of committed teachers and administrative staff who are determined to help students get back on track.”
