Every nine seconds, a student drops out of high school. Some have to work because parents or children depend on them. Some have truancy issues and have missed so much school they feel left behind. Others are not comfortable in large classes or think they just don’t fit in. Whatever the reasons, the consequences are the same. Life doesn’t get any easier without a diploma. Ombudsman Education Services provides an alternate route for middle and high school students who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school.
Truancy
Students who miss too many classes because of social, personal or family challenges may fall behind in school and feel that it is too difficult to catch up and graduate with their classmates.
Ombudsman provides a truancy program for students who have missed too much school to graduate. Ombudsman serves students who have missed classes because of medical conditions, full time employment, family challenges or other reasons.
Credit Recovery
Ombudsman also provides a credit recovery program to students who don’t have the necessary credits to graduate. Some students find themselves in that situation after transferring schools or missing too much school because of medical conditions or truancy.
Students who are lacking the necessary credits to graduate sometimes give up because they think that they are too far behind to continue. Students who are enrolled in Ombudsman’s credit recovery program can pick up their work where they left off. They can earn the necessary academic credits to return to their referring district school closer to or on track for promotion to the next grade level.
Expulsion or Long-Term Suspension
Some students are at risk of dropping out or not graduating because they face expulsion or long-term suspension from their referring school district. Ombudsman provides an alternative learning program so these students can stay on track academically and earn their high school diploma. With the help of Ombudsman’s non-traditional middle and high school program, students improve their academic standing in order to graduate or transfer back into their school district.
Learning Disabilities
For students with learning disabilities such as ADD or ADHD, a traditional classroom setting can be difficult. Students with ADD and/or ADHD benefit from the personalized instruction and small classrooms provided by Ombudsman’s alternative learning environment. There, students can feel comfortable and confident about their academic ability. Ombudsman eliminates distractions and helps students focus on their work and on really learning.
Supporting Other Family Members
Many Ombudsman students work to support their families. They have parents, grandparents or children of their own who depend on them. Ombudsman’s flexible schedule allows students to attend class during short sessions that work with their family or work obligations. The non-traditional middle and high school schedules give students the opportunity to work part-time or full-time and still earn a high school diploma.
Pregnant Teens and Teen Parents
Ombudsman also offers an alternative program for pregnant teens. Young men and women who anticipate becoming parents or are already raising children benefit from the flexible schedule and non-traditional high school program offered by Ombudsman. Young parents can address their family obligations while continuing their education and graduating through Ombudsman’s non-traditional school for at-risk students.
