Alternate Route

It is simple... what we do helps kids get where they want to go and to places they never thought were possible.

Ombudsman Educational Services alternative diploma educational program for at-risk students
Personal challenges, family responsibilities, learning disabilities, medical conditions, social influences or behaviors that could result in suspension, truancy and/or expulsion should not force middle and high school students to drop out of school.

Ombudsman Educational Services provides a program that helps at-risk students get back on track to earn a high school diploma, even if they have already dropped out of school.

Ombudsman offers an alternative learning environment that is different from traditional school settings. We believe every student can succeed with the right instruction in the right environment. Ombudsman provides several academic services that allow students to reach their full potential.

Ombudsman Programs are accredited by AdvancED, the unified organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and Commission on International and Transregional Accreditation (CITA). AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide through accreditation, research, and professional services. AdvancED creates the world's largest education community, representing 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 countries worldwide and educating 15 million students. NCA CASI, SACS CASI, and CITA schools share a unified, clear and powerful accreditation process designed to help schools continuously improve.

Full-Time Enrollment
Ombudsman provides full-time alternative academic programs for at-risk students in grades six through 12. Upon enrolling, each student receives an initial academic assessment, which determines that student’s individualized program. Once students master each content area and meet their school’s graduation requirements, they are promoted from eighth grade or earn a high school diploma from their school district.

Courses for Credit
Students who want or need additional course work so they can earn or recover lost  credits may enroll in Ombudsman with the approval of their school district. Students have access to courses in English, language arts, social studies, science, math and various electives.

Academic Skill Development
Skill development for all grade levels begins with a careful diagnosis and evaluation of each student’s academic needs by a certified instructor. Students are able to achieve academic goals in small classroom settings with low student-to-teacher ratios where they receive personalized instruction.

Tutoring
Students in grades six through 12 receive one-on-one instruction in specific subject areas where they are experiencing patterns of frustration and failure. Instructors provide continual assistance, coaching, feedback and evaluation.

Summer Program
Instruction in skill development sessions, high school courses for credit and tutoring for students in grades six through 12 are offered during summer sessions. Summer enrichment programs are ideal in helping students prepare for the next grade level or strengthening skills acquired during the previous year.
