Ombudsman Educational Services operates charter schools in addition to its school district partnership programs.
Ombudsman currently operates charter schools in Arizona for students who are at risk of dropping out of school, who need additional credits or who need a shorter school day than public schools offer. Students can enroll in an Ombudsman Charter School at any time and earn their high school diploma in a personalized, safe, alternative environment. Charter schools are funded by the state and students attend free of charge.

The Ombudsman Charter School program is aligned to state standards, ensuring that students learn and master the necessary skills and content knowledge they need to graduate.  And, like other Ombudsman programs, Ombudsman Charter Schools offer students a flexible schedule, personalized instruction and computer-assisted learning that allows them to work at their own pace in a small learning environment. And, students who are enrolled in an Ombudsman Charter School can typically participate on their district school’s athletic teams.

The six Ombudsman Arizona Charter Schools in Phoenix were all rated “Performing” or “Performing Plus” according to the 2008 Achievement Profiles of the ARIZONA LEARNS system of school accountability.

The ARIZONA LEARNS bill, passed in 2002 by the state legislature, created a system to evaluate school performance based on student testing, graduation rates and other indicators of success. To achieve a “Performing” designation from the state, students of a school must demonstrate proficiency in meeting certain performance goals. To enroll in an Ombudsman Charter School, a student  completes the Charter Application Form (Cómo Matricularse: Español). For assistance with Charter applications, please call (602) 840-2997. 

Once the application is processed, the student completes a diagnostic assessment that determines his or her academic skill level. Once the assessment is completed, an individualized learning plan is created to meet the student’s specific academic needs.
